Diverting food waste from landfill

5th May 2011

In the accelerating drive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions it seems increasingly likely that ‘bio waste’, including food and kitchen waste, will be banned from landfill sites within the next few years.

By segregating food from general waste, substantial tonnages could be diverted from landfill, significantly reducing the volume of greenhouse gases (Methane and CO2) released to atmosphere and contributing to climate change. The UK produces 12-20 million tonnes of food waste per year and capturing the biogas from one tonne of food waste saves between 0.5 and 1 tonne of CO2 equivalent.

Many of our customers are already seeking ways to recycle as much of their waste as possible including food, we are  responding to this demand by looking at alternative means of recycling the food waste.
